Welcome to the Stoney Middleton Well Dressing Society Web Site. The aims of the Society are to maintain & promote the custom of Well Dressing for present & future generations. Our Well Dressing Week normally takes place in July and incorporates a week of varied activities for all ages, these include: concerts, treasure hunts quizzes, community hymn singing, children’s events, sports events & fell race to name but a few.
Profits from Well Dressing Week are ploughed back into the village community with substantial grants being awarded to local organisations.
Stoney Middleton Well Dressing was started in 1936 by Ted Shimwell. In 2011 Stoney Middleton marked the 75th well dressings aniversary in the village.
Stoney Middletons well dressings consists of 3 wells.
· Main Well Dressing: on The Nook, near St Martin’s Church.
· Children’s Well Dressing at the entrance to a house on The Nook, next to the Main Well Dressing.
· Bath House Gardens Well Dressing: Follow the Nook around to the spring near the old Roman Baths.
